No Guns, Johannesburg

Guns are prohibited. Guns are not allowed. No guns!

Imagine if such a sign had been invented before humans started evolving. Imagine if we lived in a World where killing others was simply unimaginable, unthinkable, undoable. Animals only kill each other when they seek food. So with our agriculture techniques, why should a human being kill another?

There are many causes that I am prepared to die for but no cause that I am prepared to kill for. Mahatma Gandhi

As I was touring Johannesburg, I made a stop at Nelson Mandela’s old house, which now became a museum. There was a “no guns” sign at the door which at first surprised me. But a few minutes later, I was hit by the violent reality of the surroundings that define the post-apartheid society in South Africa.

And why do people seek violence? Is it for money? Opportunism? Vengeance? Hate? All those feelings should not exist because they make people act without consciously thinking.
